OK, so this was an easy one. The key words in the question are - park and car.

 

Question 2

You want to buy some stamps. Where would you go?

  1. VERKEHRSAMT
  2. RATHAUS
  3. HAUPTPOST
  4. HAUPTBAHNHOF

The Solution

No clues in the question this time but you should be able to spot the word post in answer C, even though it was part of a longer word. When possible use words that look like English ones to help you. For example: Post = post office

 

Question 3

You see this sign on a shop door.

MATTIS MODE täglich 09.30 - 18.00 samstags 09.30 - 13.00

Which day is half-day closing?

There are no clues in this question but you should be able to spot a word in the sign that looks like an English word. For example: Samstags means Saturdays. It might be useful to make sure you know all the days of the week in German. Also, make sure you're confident about the 24-hour clock as it's use will be very common in languages exams.

You see this notice at the town hall. What is the event on 13th May?

There are no clues to the answer in the question but you can look for words that look like English ones to help you. For example: 'Schule' and 'Fest' together mean school fete. Schule = schoolFest = festivalSchulfest = school fete

You see this notice in a newspaper. Where is the shop?

The Solution

Look at the words in the question in separate parts to help you work out what they might mean together and then use your knowledge of prepositions like 'neben' to help you complete the answer. Be careful of words like 'Marktplatz' which might be a red-herring.

For example: neben = nearHalle = hallBad = bathHallenbad = indoor swimming pool

You see this sign outside a factory.

What does it tell you?

The Solution

Look at words in separate parts to help you work out what they might mean together. For example: frei = free or freihalten = keep free (hold free)

Look out for words that look like their English equivalents. For example: reserviert = reserved.

Question 7

Look at this article taken from a German teenage magazine. Look at the names mentioned in the questions and read the items about them at least twice. Don't worry if there are words that you don't understand. Answer the typical exam question below.

Julia Die 15jährige Schülerin aus Hochstellerhof ist 1,76 m groß. Wenn sie nicht gerade mit ihrem Zwillingsbruder streitet, sind Telefonieren, Joggen und Tanzen ihre größten Hobbys. Sie liebt Apfelsaft und Obstsalat.

Katja Katja aus Zwickau ist 1,71 groß. Die15jährige Schülerin liebt Pizza und Salat und trinkt am liebsten Milch. Ihr Talent ist Schauspielen. Sharon Stone und Brad Pitt sind ihre Lieblingsschauspieler.

The Solution

It is very important you know key prepositions such as ab because the whole meaning of the sentence hinges on them. Again it is very useful to look at words in separate parts to help you work out what they might mean together. The example here is: nicht = not + Raucher = smoker + Zone = zone(area) gives you Nichtraucherzone.

In der Zeitung steht die folgende Wettervorhersage für Wien:

Ein Hoch kommt über Wien und bringt vom Osten das schöne Wetter. Im Zentrum von Wien wird die Sonne den ganzen Tag scheinen. Im Wald wird es aber kühler sein, nur 25-30 Grad. Am Flughafen ist die Sicht nicht sehr gut, der Nebel wird aber am Nachmittag verschwinden. Am Kettenberg könnte es auch sehr windig sein, also bitte aufpassen beim bergsteigen. Alle die in den Süden für ihre Ferien fliegen werden besonders gutes Wetter haben. Am Strand in Italien wird es heiße Temperaturen geben, also die Sonnenmilch nicht vergessen.

Liebe Karin,

Wir sind hier auf Urlaub in den Bergen in der Nähe von Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Es ist sehr schön hier, und die Sonne scheint jeden Tag. Leider sind wir nur eine Woche hier. Am Samstag fahren wir wieder nach Hause.

Unser Hotel heißt "Pension Frohsinn". Frühstück ist um 8 Uhr und wir bekommen Brötchen

 und heiße Schokolade. Das ist lecker! Nach dem Frühstück gehen wir wandern. Die Berge sind direkt hinter unserer Pension. Wir nehmen unser Mittagessen mit, aber um 11 Uhr möchte ich normalerweise eine Jause. Dann machen wir eine Pause, setzen uns ins Gras und essen ein Schinkenbrot. Es gibt sehr viele Kühe in den Bergen. Sie tragen alle Glocken, damit der Bauer sie nicht verliert. Das Mittagessen essen wir am höchsten Punkt des Berges. Die Aussicht ist wunderbar. Man kann nur Berge sehen. Meine kleine Schwester langweilt sich dann und wir müssen Ball spielen oder Blumen suchen.

Am Abend gibt es in der Pension eine Disko. Es gibt auch ein Jugendzimmer, wo man Tischtennis spielen kann. Leider muß ich um 10 Uhr schon ins Bett. Es macht mir Spaß hier und die Leute sind nett.
